Notes

OHIO, Ashtabula Co. Probate Records includes Will of Samuel Johnson which lists children and wife; (based on will, it is possible Mercy was a second wife - see will). Samuel and Jane Wheeler, listed as minor heirs of daughter Lucinda Raymond, deceased, indicates she was widowed (divorced) and remarried before 1833 when the will was written. If so, Aaron Wheeler, Jr. died before 15 Dec. 1830, when Lucinda Wheeler married Philander Raymond in Geauga Co, OH. (The Aaron Wheeler located in Harpersfield, Ashtabula Co. at each federal census 1820-1860 may be Aaron Wheeler, Sr. married to Margaret Harper). Unable to locate sons, Abel and Peter, and daughters, Lydia and Sally (Lucretia found in Wheeler history). Lydia, Sally and Peter named in settlement of will in 1840. Peter was NOT named in 1840 - was he dead or estranged? Son: Peter, married to Phebe, is wrong individual based upon place of birth (Germany) in 1850 OH census..... (This needs verification). Sons: Peter and Abel may be the OLDER sons (and Otis and Samuel, Jr. younger sons) instead of visa versa based upon order named in will. 1830 census: Ohio, Ashtabula Co. Geneva Twp. includes for S. Johnson, 1 male 70-80 and two females 30-40 and 60-70. [the younger female may be either a widowed/unmarried daughter or a servant.] 1820 census: Ohio, Ashtabula Co. Geneva Twp. includes for Samuel Johnson only a male 45+ and a female 45+. 1810 census INDEX: NY lists 17 Samuel Johnsons. Based on ages (only five were over 45+), ages of sons, and counties (see History of Delaware Co below), Samuel, Sr. may be in Delaware Co, WALTON twp, p. 476, listed with a male 45+ and females 10-16 and 45+. Solomon Johnson also listed (plus four other Johnson households). 1800 census: NY, Delware Co, Walton twp. also lists a Samuel Johnson with 10201-02101, as well as Solomen Johnson and two other Johnson households. 1790 census:NY, Montgomery Co, Harpersfield lists Samuel Johnston with four males 16+ and three males under 16 and five females. Two other Johnston households plus Alexander Harper and Levy, Sr.&Jr. Gallord. [Delaware county formed after 1790 - see History notes.] History of Delaware Co, NY 1797 describes development of Harpersfield by Harper brothers. It is noted that at the first town meeting on 1 APR 1788 Samuel Johnson was elected pathmaster for Painesdale and he and Levi Gaylord were elected fence viewers. Thus Samuel Johnson was in Delaware County in 1788 (and I am guessing he may have married there and his older children might have been born there). Delaware county history further noted under Betsy Bartholomew and Harper family.
