William and his brother Thomas both moved from Jefferson, NY to near Painsville
in Ohio. Later they moved back to Amity Township in Pennsylvania. William was
mustered into service in the Union Army Dec. 29, 1862 and served as a private
in Company L. 12th PA Cavalry. He died March 21, 1865 at North Hampton, Va.
