Notes

Lived in Sherrill, Iowa. Farmer and owner of 1/2 of the divided farm of his fathers estate in Germany (the other half owned by his eldest brother George Ludwig, and was still owned by a descendant of his in 1947). They came to Baltimore, Maryland in 1831 with two small children. George Gabriel had a brother living there at that time who was a Shipping Merchant, and owner of farm land near Baltimore, whose name was either Herman or Werner, who had one son. No further data was obtained of this family. In 1833 Gabriel and family returned to Germany. Their third child (Amalia) was born when crossing the sea. In 1845 Gabriel sold his farm to a Nobleman of Berleburg, and with his family of 8 children returned to the U.S. by way of New Orleans, up the Mississippi River by boat to St. Louis, Mo. Two years later they went to Sherrill, Iowa, and purchased 160 acres of Government land for $1.25 per acre, later buying 40 acres adjoining; This farm was hilly timber land.
