Notes

According to handwritten notes made by William Hendry, son of David Hendry and Selina Hotchkiss, The family of Joseph Hotchkiss and Hannah Atwater were "raised under the Crown with all the rigid rules of that olden time, the first born having precedence in property. Roswell, the eldest son, was the favored one. He was a leader in church and state in the community where he resided, was at the head of the new Connecticut Land Purchasing Company and one of the Judges of the Court in Delaware County {New York ?} where he resided. There is a biographical sketch of Roswell Hotchkis(s) on page 229 of The History of Delaware County NY --- Published by WW Munsell and Co of New York in 1880.
