Notes

Malinda's family, the Platts, were living in and around Penn Line, Pennsylvania, in the yea r 1897, as recorded in her grandson's journal (J. Ivor) during his travels in the area that y ear. ("Visited Maria, Eli, Bert and Ivor Platt.") Malinda Platt Montgomery most likely acted for a short time in the role of Mother to her Gran dsons, J. Ivor and William Harper Montgomery, since her daughter in-law, Luceva Ward Montgome ry, died at the age of 27 (1850-51) shortly after they had moved to Illinois (1846) with thei r son, John. Malinda lived until 1874, seven (7) years after her son, John Nelson Montgomery, moved to Iow a with his second wife and family, 7 years after her husband John Harper Montgomery died. Sh e died at the home of John Nelson Montgomery, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, and is assumed buried ther e. Her grandson, James Ivor Montgomery, remained in Illinois and was about 21 years of age whe n his father left for Iowa. James Ivor Montgomery would have been 27 when his Grandmother Ma linda died.
