July 30, 2006 Hi Rick: Well, as you can see, I was able to get online for a few minutes anyway. I agree with your thoughts latest thoughts regarding Miriam Harper and William McFarland. I h ave been in contact with the Morley Public Library and they have indicated to me that there w ere no newspapers publishing in the area during this pre-1825 period. So, it appears that a n obit for Miriam in 1813 may not be available, at least in Ohio. I located the following in my records. Can you please call me today when you get this so tha t I can get your thoughts? I go to church from 11:30-2:30 our time. My Father is coming ove r for dinner about 5pm and will probably stay and visit until about 7:30 or so, depending o n how tired he is. This book bought January 9, 1821, price eight dollars John A. Harper, son to Alexander Harper was born March 30, 1774 and married Lorain Miner, Dec ember 29th, 1802. Lorain was born December 20th, 1787. (The children of this family are then listed.) Following the children of John & Lorain, the following is printed: Extra mss notes of loose papers found in Bible, written by John A. Harper: A family record from the days of my great-grandfather unto this day, March 30th, 1821. Rick: There then follows several typed pages of data. I am leaving the spelling & punctuatio n as it is in the typed copy I have. The items shown below in green are written in on the typ ed copy and appear to be transcriber's notes and do not appear to be actually taken from th e Bible itself. "John Harper, son to James Harper and Jannet Leus (indistinct) was born in Ireland in the county of Derry and Parrish of New- townlamivaddy the 10th day of August 1705. Came to America in October 1720 with his father and mother who had at that time five children: viz: three sons and two daughters. Anne the oldest married to James Miller in Ireland, Joseph the eldest son married to Merron Tompson in Milton near Boston. William, second son died unmarried. Sarah, second daughter married to John Montgomery in Hopkinton near Boston. They arrived at C asco Bay in New England and settled their but the Indians making war, two or three years afte r their arrival the whole family except John moved to Boston. John served near four years against the Indians, afterwards came to Boston also and was marie d by the Rev. Samuel Barrot the 8th day of November 1728 to Abigail Montgomery, daughter to W illiam Montgomery and Mary Aken in Hopkinton who came from Killallo in the County of Mayo i n Ireland and at Casco bay in the year 1719 and was driven off by the Indian war as above an d settled in Hopkinton in New England where John and Abigail were married. William Harper their eldest son was born in Noodles Island at Boston in New England 14th Sept ember 1729 and recorded in town clerks office and was baptized by the Rev. Mr. Clark. James Harper, 2nd son was born in Boston 26 of March 1731, recorded as above and baptized b y the Rev. Mr. Moorhead. Mary Harper was born in Boston 23 of June 1733 baptized by Mr. Moorhead. Col. John Harper, 3rd son was born in Boston 31st of May 1734 baptized by the Rev. Mr. Moorhe ad. Margaret Harper born in Boston and died in the 2nd year of her age. Margaret Harper the 2nd was born in Boston 7th of Febry 1739 was baptized by the Rev. Mr. Moo rhead. Joseph Harper, 4th son was born in Middletown in Connecticut, 4th of Febry 1742, recorded i n the town clerks office and baptized by the Rev. Mr. Russel. Alexander Harper, 5th son was born in Middletown 22 of February in the year 1744, recorded i n the town clerks office and baptized by the Rev. Mr. Russel. Abigail Harper was born in Middletown, July 1745, recorded in the town clerks office and bapt ized by the Rev. Mr. Russel. Miriam Harper was born in Windsor in Connecticut the 14th of Feb. 1749, baptized by the Rev . Mr. Edwards. ********************* John Harper removed from Windsor in Connecticut to Cherry Valley in Albany County, New York C olony with all his family in October 1754. James Harper, 2nd son to John and Abigail Harper departed this life by the small pox 22nd o f March 1760 in the 29th year of his age. Intered in the burying yard in Cherry Valley. Abigail, wife of John Harper the mother of this family departed this mortal life at his hous e at the beaverdam Cherry Valley, 20 December 1767 in the 59th year of her age by a consumpti on and was intered by her 2nd son James on his right side in the burying ground in Cherry Val ley. John Harper, the father of this family departed this life the 20th of April 1765* at Harpersf ield being 79 years eight months and 21 days and was buried by his children in the burying gr ound at Harpersfield. William Harper, the eldest son was married in Albany 13th of April 1760 by the Rev. Mr. Ogelv e to Margaret Williams. Margaret Galt, 3rd daughter of this family departed this life at Cherry Valley 23rd of Augus t 1787. Dau of John & Abigail. Mary Moore the eldest daughter of this family departed this life at Milford, Otsego County th e 10th of April 1798. Dau of John & Abigail. Capt. Alexander Harper the 5th son of this family departed this life the 10th of September 17 98 at Harpersfield, Ashtabula County, State of Ohio. Joseph Harper departed this life May 16 1805 in Harpersfield, Ashtabula County, Ohio. Son o f John & Abigail. Mariam McFarland died April 28th 1813 in Harpersfield, Ohio. Dau of John & Abigail. Col. John Harper died November 20th, 1810 in Harpersfield, New York aged 76 years 5 months an d 10 days. Elizabeth Harper died June 11 1833 in Harpersfield, Ohio, the wife of Alexander Harper.
