This is the New England as it existed in 1747. Three years before this map was published, John Harper Sr. moved his family west from the Boston area to Middletown in the Province of Connecticut. Middletown is shown on the Connecticut River due west of Boston. Note there was also a 'road' between Boston and Hartford which would have been the probable route taken.

Seven years after this map was published, John would take his family west again. In this case he was moving from East Windsor to Cherry Valley. The western most part of this map shows Albany on the Hudson River.
